Small Parrots

Large parrots take up a lot of space and most of them demand a lot of attention. This is the reason most people decide on getting one of the smaller parrots.

The parakeets, conures and mini macaws species make up the majority of the small parrot types that people choose as pets.

Conure birds

A few of the conure birds can be found in the Caribbean Islands and Mexico but the majority originate from South and Central America. Depending on how well you care for it and what species you get these affectionate, playful and colorful parrots will live anywhere from 15 to 35 years.

Their social and active nature makes them easy to train and they are playful parrots with sweet dispositions. They aren't as good as an amazon or African gray parrot at talking, but they are capable of mimicking speech. Although some conures will form a bond with just one person most are good pets that get along with children and other pets.

Mini macaws

A mini macaw is less expensive, doesn't need as much room and doesn't need as much attention as the large macaws do. None of them need a great deal space and majority of them are reasonably priced. They do need daily socialization and attention, but they aren't anywhere near as demanding as their large cousins are. Mini macaws are intelligent, they are inquisitive and they are friendly which makes them ideal as a family pet.

Parakeet birds

If you have a colorful little parrot with a long pointed tail it most likely is one of the many parrots that are considered to be a parakeet. Hopping from perch to perch, chewing on everything in sight or playing with their toys pretty much sums up the day of a parakeet. Sitting still just isn't part of their nature. A parakeet bird is social, it is intelligent, it gets along with other birds and it are easy to tame.

They are pretty decent talkers and when it comes to doing tricks they are fast learners. Parakeets are easy to care for, and with a few exceptions they are inexpensive parrots.

If you are looking for an inexpensive parrot that doesn't need a lot of room any one of these parrots make good pets.
